Division commanders and deputy commanders of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) resigned en masse on Thursday after being accused of misusing the funds released by the government for the combatants and the party levy.
Yam Bahadur Adhikari, commander of 1st division in Ilam, Suk Bahadur Rokka of 2nd division in Sindhuli, Dhan Bahadur Maski of 3rd division in Shaktikhor, Chitwan, Tej Bahadur Oli of 4th division in Nawalparasi, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi of sixth division Surkhet and Santu Darai of 7th division in Kailali and the deputy commanders of all six main cantonments tendered their resignations following the accusation from the former combatants.
They resigned during a meeting of the party's standing committee today. Suspension of the accused commanders was one of the 11 point demands of the ex combatants.
Three division commanders Dhan Bahadur Maski, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi and Tej Bahadur Oli were earlier accused of irregularities worth over Rs 10 million.
The SC meeting also decided to form a commission to address the demands of the former combatants including investigation into the alleged misappropriation of the funds meant for them after they obstructed ongoing plenum of the Maoist party on Wednesday.
