Students in the far-western region have intensified their struggle demanding the establishment of a university in the region.
Mahendranagar of Kanchanpur district became tense throughout the day Tuesday as police and students clashed in the course of demonstrations organised by the students demanding the university.
Four students, a local resident and some policemen were injured in the clashes. Police had fired tear gas canisters to take the situation under control.
Educational institutions, market, government and private offices remained shut in the city Tuesday due to the tense situation.
The students had been staging demonstrations for the university since past one week. They had also staged demonstrations and organised other programmes demanding the university many times in the past.
