NC organises mass assembly 'for peace and timely statute' in Jhapa

Main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) organised a mass assembly in Birtamod of Jhapa Saturday as part of its ongoing people's awareness campaign for peace and timely statute.

Central level leaders including vice president Ram Chandra Paudel, general secretary duo Prakash Man Singh and Krishna Sitaula, and central committee members Sher Bahadur Deuba and Shekhar Koirala addressed the assembly.

Addressing the mass assembly NC leaders stressed on the need for a democratic constitution and accused the UCPN (Maoist) of delaying the peace and the constitution writing process.

The party had started a public campaign claimed to be for timely statute and peace with a mass assembly in Pokhara on April 24.

It is organising national level mass assemblies in three more districts – Dang, Rupandehi and Kanchanpur – before concluding the campaign with a mass assembly in Kathmandu on May 20.

It is also organising district level mass assemblies in various 37 districts at appropriate times.
