MJF-N suffers another vertical split

Madhesi Janadhikar Forum- Nepal (MJF-N), one of the main constituent of the current ruling coalition, suffered another vertical split on Monday following an intra-party conflict that saw two of its top leaders contesting with each other over whether the party should be part of the UML-led government.

J.P Gupta, who was the co-chair of MJF-N, revolted from the party led by its chairman and foreign minister Upendra Yadav to form a new splinter named Madhesi Janadhikar Forum -Ganatantrik. He had been unhappy with party chair Yadav over the latter's decision to join the current government.

Gupta informed the Constituent Assembly (CA) secretariat today morning about the formation of a new party with 13 of the total 25 CA members/lawmakers of MJF-N.

Gupta has appointed himself chairman as well as the parliamentary party leader of the newly formed party while Nandan Kumar Dutta is the party's deputy parliamentary party leader and Chandrika Prasad Yadav is party's chief whip.

Similarly, Ram Lal Yadav and Sarita Yadav have been appointed party secretary and treasurer respectively.

Other MJF-N lawmakers who have switched to the new party are Raj Kishor Yadav, Atmaram Prasad Sah, Salma Khatun, Om Prakash Yadav, BP Yadav, Ahmad Akmal and Sunita Kumari Sah.

In 2009, the party had suffered its first split after Bijay Kumar Gachhedhar revolted from the party to form Madhesi Janadhikar Forum- Loktantrik with 40 percent of MJF lawmakers.
