Normal life in eastern parts of the country has been partially affected due to a bandh (shutdown strike) called by Chhettri Samaj Nepal on Monday.
Vehicles mostly stayed off the road for fear of attacks from bandh organisers while main marketplaces, educational institutions, industries and offices remained largely closed in Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa including few other district of the eastern region.
After receiving assurance from the government that a taskforce will be formed within a month to look into the demands of the Chhettris during talks held with the government representatives at the Ministry of Peace Sunday evening, the Samaj had withdrawn its bandh programme in the Kathmandu Valley for Monday.
Demanding status of indigenous nationality for Chhettris, reservation in state agencies and a different Khas Chhettri state, the Samaj had enforced bandh in the Valley Sunday.
