Govt says natural disasters, epidemic killed 87

At least 87 people have died in various parts of the country after falling victim to natural calamities like landslides and flashfloods including diarrhea and cholera epidemic this monsoon, according to the statistics disclosed by the Home Ministry.

The statistics shows that landslides and flashfloods caused by incessant rainfall this monsoon took the lives of 38 and 25 people respectively while lightning claimed 10 lives and nine succumbed to diarrhea epidemic in the remote parts of the country.
The Home Ministry also said hundreds of people have been feared missing and scores of families have been rendered homeless due to landslides and flashfloods.
What's more, the death toll is expected to rise as the monsoon is continuing to wreak havoc.
A Home Ministry official told a leading daily Friday that efforts to mitigate natural disaster, rescue and evacuate victims, supply essesntial medicines and foods are underway and mobiles health workers have been intensified as a part of precautionary measure in the affected parts of the country.
