Fifth round of PM election postponed to Aug 23

The fifth round of prime ministerial voting, which was to take place today, has been postponed to August 23.

A meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the legislature-parliament decided to postpone the election owing to the death of UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Ram Kumari Yadav.
The UCPN (Maoist) had proposed to defer the parliamentary voting for the Prime Minister as a condolence on the death of its lawmaker. Chief whips of the three major parties were present at the meeting of the committee, among other members.
Yadav, who had sustained severe injuries in a fire that broke out in her rented apartment in Kathmandu due to cooking gas leakage, had died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in New Delhi on Sunday. Earlier four rounds of voting for the prime minister had failed with the CPN (UML) and Madhesi parties remaining neutral.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the legislature parliament that convened this afternoon passed a condolence note over the death of lawmaker Yadav. The meeting also endorsed the new date for the election of a prime minister set by BAC
