KATHMANDU: Chief of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Karen Landgren met UCPN-Maoist vice chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai at the latter’s residence in Shantinagar on Wednesday.
According to sources, Landgren inquired Bhattarai about the nature of the upcoming May 1 protest rally planned by the UCPN-Maoist. Saying that his party was fully abided by the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, Bhattarai assured UNMIN chief that the protest would be peaceful.
During the meeting, she also expressed her serious concern over the arrest of Santosh Rai, a platoon sub-commander of PLA Second Division. Police arrested Rai with arms from Bharatpur in Chitwan on Tuesday. Bhattrai replied that his party was completely unaware about the explosives carried by Rai as he was on home leave. The duo also discussed the extension of UNMIN tenure in Nepal, sources added.
