UNMIN has condemned what it called "reckless" act of Maoist army platoon commander who was arrested in possession of a hand grenade while traveling on public transportation on Tuesday.
"UNMIN condemns this reckless risk to life and calls on the Unified CPN (Maoist) to cooperate fully in an investigation and take appropriate disciplinary actions," stated a press release issued by UNMIN on Wednesday.
UNMIN said that holding and carrying arms in violation of the law "is legally punishable and a breach of the Agreement on the Monitoring of the Management of Arms and Armies (AMMAA)" and called on the Maoists and all parties to adhere strictly to the peace agreements and refrain from any provocative statements or actions.
Santosh Rai 'Pratirodh', 24, a platoon commander of a satellite camp under the PLA second division in Sindhuli was arrested with 36 hand grenades and a Khukuri on Tuesday morning.
Police have claimed Rai was heading to Kathmandu to participate in the mass protests called by his party on May 1.
