Sujata no-show in cabinet meet on MRPs deal

KATHMANDU: A vocal proponent of awarding the MRPs contract to India, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sujata Koirala was conspicuous by her absence in Sunday’s cabinet meeting.

The meeting, the first after the Supreme Court’s ruling not to implement the decision on awarding the contract, is scheduled to convene later in the evening to discuss the issue and come up with a decision.
Earlier today, the CPN-UML Parliamentary Party urged the government to repeal its decision to award the MRPs contract to India.The government had awarded the contract to print MRPs to India last month. The Supreme Court (SC) issued an order staying the government decision on April 7.
