College students clashed with police in busy thoroughfare of Chabahil in Kathmandu as the latter tried to intervene in their demonstration they organised in protest of the arrest of Free Students' Union (FSU) vice-chairman Bishnu Poudel including other student leaders of Tri-Chandra Campus a day before.
Reports coming in say that more than a dozen students affiliated with Nepal Students' Union (NSU) have been injured in the clash that ensued soon after the latter started to pelt stones at the baton charging police. Police have also arrested few students from the area.
Eyewitnesses said that police even entered the campus premises chasing the protestors and misbehaved and manhandled journalists who were there to cover the protest.
Three photo-journalists was injured after being hit by stones thrown by police, reports quoted eyewitnesses as saying. The injured journalists are being treated at Medicare Hospital.
Police fired a dozen rounds of tear gas canisters towards protesting cadres of Nepal Students Union in the course of dispersing them.
