Maoist cadres march in the capital

KATHMANDU: Cadres of the Unified CPN-Maoist on Thursday staged demonstrations in the capital in line with their demonstration here scheduled for May 1.

As a part of the party preparations to stage the demonstration in the capital, activists of Young Communist league (YCL), party cadres and volunteers marched in several places including Lainchaur, Durbar Marg, Putalisadak and Ratnapark this morning.
They also took out motorbike rallies in the areas before it converged into a corner meet at Ratnapark. Participants of the rallies chanted anti-government slogans. Traffic in Ratnapark, Putalisadak, Bagbazar and adjoining areas was affected due to the rallies.
UCPN-M declared to stage the demonstration in the capital on May 1 to press the government for the timely promulgation of the statute and institutionalisation of Loktantra.
A source said that at least 20,000 Maoist cadres have already arrived in the capital to participate the demonstration.
Meanwhile, EU diplomatic representatives, in their meeting with UCPN-M chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ this morning, urged him to roll back the latter’s decision to declared massive protest.
