Leaders from ruling and the opposition parties exchange conflicting statements on possibilities of forming a new government as Maoists prepare no-confidence vote at the parliament session.
At an interaction in capital on Sunday, Maoist spokesperson Dinanath Sharma said they are committed to topple the Nepal-led government to be replaced by a new one under the leadership of this party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal within this parliamentary session beginning today.
Sharma said it is important that largest party in the parliament leads the government considering the failure of the current government to complete constitution writing task within the time frame.
Speaking at the same interaction, Nepali Congress joint general secretary Arjun Narsingh KC said parties must prioritise constitution writing and army integration over changing the government.
Alternative must not be sought to the current government until new constitution is promulgated, he added.
Stating that his party would not be obstacle to forging national consensus, UML leader Raghubir Mahashet said his party is not ready to handover government leadership to Maoists. He said Ram Chandra or Jhalanath Khanal could lead the national consensus government if Maoists just want an alternative of the present coalition.
On the other hand, general secretary of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) Jitendra Dev said they would rather propose Bijaya Kumar Gachchadar as the new prime minister if need arises to replace the current coalition government. However, he mentioned that his party is not in favour of Nepal's alternative for now.
On Saturday, Gachchhadar said in Janakpur that he should be next in line for prime minister of the country if the Nepal-led government is toppled.
