Govt will maintain law and order at any cost during Maoist protests: Defence Minister

Defence Minister Bidhya Devi Bhandari on Thursday warned that the army can be deployed if it becomes necessary to maintain law and order and safeguard people and public property during the nationwide protests by the Maoists.

Emerging from a meeting of ten political parties in the coalition government, Minister Bhandari said the government will safeguard "national integrity and sovereignty" at any cost.
Stating that the army can be deployed if the indefinite nationwide general strike announced by the Maoists from May 2 go out of control, she said that Maoists should stop dreaming about capturing state power through the street protests.Minister Bhandari also said that the government will not tolerate any acts of the Maoists that undermine national security and peace
