AISC instructs technical committee to prepare proposal for integration, rehabilitation of Maoist combatants

Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) has instructed its technical committee to prepare three separate proposals for the integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants staying in various cantonments across the country.

A meeting of the AISC held at the Prime Minister’s office, Singha Durbar Sunday has instructed the technical committee to prepare and submit within three days two separate proposals about how the government can support Maoist combatants who want to voluntarily join politics and those who want to be rehabilitated.
The committee has also instructed the technical committee to work out the criteria for integration for the Maoist combatants who want to be integrated in the security forces and prepare a proposal with suggestions and submit it to the committee at the earliest.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting Maoist representative at the committee Barsha Man Pun said, ‘the committee decided to direct the technical committee to prepare three separate proposals about integrating and rehabilitating the combatants.
Although, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal proposed 3000 combatants be integrated in the army during the meeting, the Maoist representatives at the committee rejected it.
The Maoist representatives said, all the combatants verified by UNMIN, except those who back off voluntary, and choose to join politics or be rehabilitated, should be integrated in security forces.
The Maoist representatives also lamented that the government had politicised the upkeeping of the Maoist combatants by stopping their salaries
